Algonquin Provincial Park 2011

Truly one of Ontario’s most beautiful places. I had the pleasure of visiting and photographing the park in September 2011. The best time to photograph is in the very early morning as the mist rises up above the land and waters. In September it is also mating season for the well known Moose of the park. It is best to use a zoom lens with the animals as they are very unpredictable. They appear very peaceful but if agitated they can do a great amount of harm.

The landscapes in the park are wonderful and the lighting conditions change constantly- just one photo can come out in 100′s of ways with changing light. The fall colors this year were breathtaking as was the warm weather of that weekend.

Ding Darling Wildlife Sanctuary, Florida, Dec 2009

The Ding Darling Wildlife Sanctuary on Florida’s Captiva Island is host to 1000′s of species of endangered animals, habitat, birds, and insects. A truley magical place.

The best time to visit the park is when the tides are changing as the water birds come out to feed in the open flats. It’s a great place, just watch for alligators at the end of the park!

There are always nesting Ospreys and now there are a pair of Bald Eagles as permanent residents. On this day I was lucky enough to see some lovely Roseate Spoonbills.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Dec 2009

Just back from a good holiday visit to Florida where I had the chance to walk through the Audubon Corkscrew Wildlife Sanctuary east of Naples, Florida.

The best time to walk through is the early morning and I had the opportunity to see some brand new Florida Black Bear claw scratch marks on the cypress trees there.

The plant life at this sanctuary is beyond imagination and reminds one a little of the Hobbit Movies series. 16 types of Florida Bromeiliads can be found in this Sanctuary including the well known yet endangered species of Spanish Moss.

There was a curious and endangered species Big Cypress Red Fox Squirrel watching me as well.

The birdlife at the Sanctuary is amazing- while there I heard Sandhill cranes, Saw Bald Eagles, Red Shouldered hawks, Crowned Night herons, Great white herons, Anhingas, Warblers, Buntings, and many many more rare birds. Here’s a few from the tour.

VISION Photo recently was able to witness the great migration of the Sandhill Crane Population.

With low light levels- VISION Photo crafted each image into a high contrast pattern rather than produce photos of poor light quality. I hope you enjoy the flight patterns of these mystical birds.

“Teaching Our Traditions” Veterans Pow Wow

VISION Photo is just back from the “Teaching Our Traditions” Pow Wow which was held in Brighton, Michigan. The Pow Wow actively taught traditions during the event by using traditional Ojibwe language, having a storytelling tent, serving traditional foods, holding traditional dance w/teachings and by example. A great event.

Just back from a week of working hard on the art of Nature and Landscape photography in Ontario. These Nature and Landscape photos are from Ontario’s North Shore Canadian Park Lands & First Nations. This area is a pristine natural landscape full of life and light. Beautiful.

Walpole Island Pow Wow 2009

For the seasons first outdoor Pow Wow, I could not have asked for a more perfect day- sunny, a slight breeze and so many beautiful dancers!
